Coffee Creek Farm
Caledon, Ontario
1995-1997
The owners were third generation Ontario horse breeders, I couldn’t ever remember being on a farm...designing their home was pure speculation!
In the heart of Ontario’s horse farm country sits Coffee Creek, 100 acres of rolling pastures and wood lot. At the crest of the tallest hill I sited this new residence, with commanding views of the countryside, and blessed with gentle breezes. The design of this home is based on an imaginary story of a Scottish settler who came to this land and build a sturdy stone house. As the home was passed from father to son, structures were added, in the style of the day. The result was an accretive yet utterly charming farm estate that captures the spirit of the region and the history of the owners.
The materials used to build the home were selected based on their local availability. Rubble stone, reclaimed timbers, pine plank flooring were obtained from sources immediately accessible from the property. The home was designed to be a seasonal residence, however, during construction, the owners determined that it would be wrong not to live at Coffee Creek full time. And so they do.
